Experience future design at DDP
DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), located in Dongdaemun, the center of fashion and beauty in Seoul, opened on March 21, 2014, and has presented various design cultural events such as exhibitions, fashion shows, new product presentations, forums, and conferences.
We have been the first in the world to launch new products and inform design trends, share design knowledge through new exhibitions, and plan experiential design contents. DDP also promotes Seoul’s status as a design city that communicates with citizens and builds a global network, playing the role of ‘the origin of the design creative industry’.
The place where the DDP was built was the place where Hadogam, who was in charge of security in the Joseon Dynasty, and Hyeonyeondogam, who was in charge of military training, were there. During the Japanese colonial period, Gyeongseong Stadium was built on the spot, and after liberation, it has been transformed into Dongdaemun Stadium and has been with the ups and downs of history.
With the opening of the DDP, the appearance of Seoul City Wall and Igansumun, which had been buried underground, was revived. It erases the history of shame and restores the pride of the nation and an older history from the early Joseon Dynasty to the modern era.
Now DDP is moving towards the future. DDP evolves into a design larchiveum where citizens and designers grow together by strengthening design publicity. As a world-class cultural facility, we plan to organize and host future-oriented convergence exhibitions by creating the nation's first design magazine library to archive and deliver design information.
It also extends the DDP stage to a virtual digital territory. We will build a DDP virtual space and continue to operate a forum by linking seminars, and based on this, we will expand DDP's performances, events and products overseas.
In the future, DDP will serve as a design platform to collect and spread wisdom to create a better life with more than 40 cities by utilizing Seoul's world-class design network. We will become the center of Seoul, a digitally sensible city by declaring a global design award that leads the affluent life of global citizens and presenting content of light that encompasses the history, place and future of Seoul.
